Hideyo Noguchi was born in Inawashiro, Fukushima prefecture in 1876. When he was one and a half years old, he fell into a fireplace and suffered a burn injury on his left hand. There was no doctor in the small village, but one of the men examined the boy. “The fingers of the left hand are mostly gone,” he said, “and the left arm, the left foot, and the right hand are burned; I don’t know how badly.”
In spite of these early difficulties, Dr. Hideyo Noguchi became a Medical researcher who investigated causes of diseases in Asia before moving to the United States of America. From there he carried out investigations in USA and Latin America as well as Europe before coming to investigate the cause of yellow fever in Ghana from which he died.
